A rant from me (I know...imagine that, but its NOT what you might be thinking!)
What a week! So many posts from me ....but I had a lot of weeks of no posts to make up for!
So,
as I was going through some stuff this week, trying to get some
programs to work and stuff...it dawned on me how MUCH money I've spent
on certain "toys" for my virtual creations and enjoyment...
Now,
the following list of things that all...ALL had "lifetime"
updates/upgrades etc when I purchased them....and I'm not dead
yet...(much as some might wish I were lol)
Sam Broadcaster
Filter Forge
Dreamlight
Avastar
One of the magazine/book maker things in SL
Land Tier Sales prices in Digiworldz
With
the exception of Filter Forge and my Land Tier in DIgiworldz, each and
everyone of the above has managed to find a way to screw over the people
whom bought into the lifetime commitment...
As technology or their own skills...improved..they changed the name of the product and launched the new version....
See,
their thinking (as was explained to me in the case of the book thing in
SL), was that they made the product sooo much better now that it wasn't
the same so the lifetime commitment no longer applied cuz it was better
than what I purchased originally....
Ok, lets think about this for a moment.
Ready
for me to continue? Good. I handed over money based on
"lifetime"....i was gambling on the fact that improvements would be made
and I would reap the benefit of it over the course of the
lifetime......
Instead...I was sold a rat when I thought I was buying a dog.....
The good news? When I purchased Filter Forge it was at 4.0, its now at 7.0 and I STILL get my updates/upgrades....amazing!
Digiworldz...when
i bought my first First Land it was 10 usd for a standard 15k prim...i
Still only have to pay that, even tho that deal is gone, my buy 1 get
one free VARs that were (then) 20 usd yep..only pay 20 usd for the one,
the other still free...that was 2 years ago...
SO...as with most
things in life, even IF the contractual agreement is LIFETIME...its
buyer beware...and thats really a shame when companies treat their
products the way some people treat love....its only good until something
better comes along...
Where I've been, where I am, where I'm going. An 11 year odyssey still going strong and even better than ever!

Why I love Opensim part (well I've lost count...)
Standing here on my home sim in Digiworldz I was playing with my new WeatherMaster by TR Lifter. As the storm clouds appeared overhead and the rain started I realized all over again how fortunate I am to have found my way to this community, not just Digiworldz but Opensim.
I was checking out the options to program the station (oh yes..sooo cool..i can have different weather on different parts of my region, and all set to cycle through various weather conditions!). And i got curious, so I checked out the MP for that big grid, and saw a similar system aaaaand just about stroked out when I saw the price tag on it....if I did the math right (and hard to say with the fluctuation in lindens..) but as near as i could figure it was approximately $400.00 usd. !!!!!
For many that is about five years worth of tier payments for our regions in Digiworldz alone, a little lower, a little higher for other OS grids!
Now, I did not pay anything close to that amount, because people in Opensim are not greedy (for the most part). We have people who make and give away awesome content such as Satyr Aeon, Shin Ingen, Fred, Linda Kellie and less well known creators who make stuff to give away and also sell. I fully support both creator types, I see nothing wrong with someone wanting to make enough money to pay their tiers in opensim after all.
Additionally, one has to remember that many of our opensim creators use full perm templates that they had to buy. Without them we would have been running around in some really ugly red pants... Now those templates (be they mesh or system) usually have a license restriction that creators MUST charge a certain amount for the clothes when they sell them. Supporting these creators is only fair to them as well, they've put out rl money in order to bring us those items that make us look and feel better with our avi's.
But I digress....Opensim allows us soo much freedom. The freedom to learn, to create (without ridiculous costs ...such as upload fees), to be just social as the prices are so affordable on just about every grid that if one doesn't need to earn one's tier one doesn't have to!

The continuing story of life in virtual and why I love opensim!
Sorry, its been a long time! However, facing one’s constant newbness isn’t always easy! For instance…I just recently learned there’s a little + sign in people’s profiles that you can use to invite them to groups with! Who knew??!!!!! Yes..I have been doing it the long way this whole time!....SO…guess I’m just one of those perpetual newbs lol…and I’m ok with that.
Speaking of newb…its time we revisited my attempts at making sculpts. Many of you will remember the wonders of having sculpts, cutting down on our prim usage with them (and yes visiting places that went overboard with sculpts and waiting forever to have the little bubbles turn into builds!). I am one of those people who found Blender to be…challenging shall we say? My first couple of years trying to make something in blender resulted mostly in lots of things with lots of extrusions and no discernible shape or logic or reason….
Then one day….eureka! (I thought) and I made SOMETHING! (oh and btw..that one day was about 5 years after I first tried to learn blender….hey I never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer!).
I was soo excited! I had this vision of what I wanted it to be and I pushed and pulled and twisted and what not!
Then I very carefully made my sculptie map.
Uploaded it into the grid I was in at the time.
Rezzed a prim.
Applied the sculpt map!
Aaaaaaand…got something that was almost completely, but not totally, unrecognizable as anything……
Well, after some sizing inworld…I was able to turn it into what could be considered a fruitbowl. Further sizing turned it into something that could be considered a vase.
And I didn’t touch blender again.
Well, til mesh came out….
So, just over the weekend I created a highwaisted, pencil skirt. I didn’t use Marvelous Designer, I didn’t use a full perm creation template.
I made it completely old school.
And..it is recognizable as a skirt!
Its pretty basic, and it won’t win any awards for high fashion, and it won’t get any “oooohs and aaahhhs” when people see it. Some of you might even roll your eyes at it…but you see its not that I made it for you, its not that I made it for me…its that I made it at all…..kind of miraculous.
I’ve attached a picture of it (with a top made by a friend of mine and shoes by another and of course Ruth 2.0 body by Shin).
So, maybe just maybe I dressed it up a little bit so you all wouldn’t see how its lacking ;p. My hope is that it encourages others who might be thinking “I can’t do that” or “this is not good enough” to not be so critical of themselves and their creations. We all start somewhere and if we keep at it we learn and grow.
And if I never make another mesh clothing item again that looks at least this good, well I’m ok with that.

News from the Star Front!
What a long journey back to my home base to bring you this news of my travels! It all started out relatively uneventful. The kind astronavigators at Kea Space gave me a lift to the Space Café where I would catch my next ride out to the Perain Exclusion Zone to join up with Starfleet to report the latest news from them.
Travelling with the Admiral and Commander Rain is always a pleasure as they make sure to route us past some interesting features, sadly many of the pictures I took did not survive the trip back, but at least I was able to bring you some! Additionally, the Admiral always seems to have a bottle of Old Earth Chivas Regal on hand…and I’ve learned to not be too concerned that he drinks straight from it while piloting us through the star systems. One of the many interesting things we saw was a sun in full solar flare glory, it was an astounding sight, though the Admiral’s desire to play “chicken” with the flares was a bit knucklebiting. Commander Rain seemed to take it all in stride though and never once lost her calm demeanor. A big thank you to them for their constant support and assistance in transporting me around the galaxy!
At the space station I was picked up by a StarFleet cruiser and enjoyed time in their Mess Hall and Observation deck as we made our way to the final leg of our journey. We got to the exclusion zone in time for some action! Following is the report from the StarFleet logs:
Starfleet vessel arrested a freighter inside the Perain exclusion-zone
Starfleet-News-Service reports, that a federation vessel arrested a freighter, which intruded
the Perain exclusion-zone without any callsign or transponder-code.
Remember: The zone was establish, to prevent an outbreak of the plant disease from the planet
Perain-3 to the nearby space-sector.
A spokesman of the SNS informed us, that the USS Davy-Crockett ordered the freighter to change
course before it intruded the exclusion-zone. As the foreign ship kept on course the commanding
officer, Captain Daecalad Brogdram, ordered to open fire to disable their engine.
The crew of the freighter used an escape shuttle and escape into open space. The security-team
of the Davy-Crockett found different contraband and also slaves in cryostasis aboard.
Starfleet-Sector-Command at New-Vinland confiscated the freighter, destroyed the contrabands and
send the slave to a federal medical facility for their rehabilitation. After this we will
welcome them as free new citizen at the New Vinland Colony.
The origin of the freighter is still unknown.

It was all quite exciting and the bare words do not reflect all the hustle and bustle of the crew as they heroically captured this vessel and not only confiscated potentially dangerous plants but also freed those beings that were in transport as slaves!
Needless to say, StarFleet was quite busy with wrapping all that up and didn’t have anyone available to escort me back home. I made the decision to try the new “matter-mitter” and get beamed home. That’s where it all went wrong…
I am told they had to hold my consciousness in stasis while they waited for Dr Shin Ingen, pioneer in the field of ExoDermal PsuedoBiological Protoplasm Containment and creator of the full body transplant, to be available to put me back together. I’m now sporting something he calls the Ruth 2.O body…it took a bit of getting used to, but it was rather better than my original body .
So, that’s why it’s taken so long to get the news out to you! (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it)

On my way to visit Starfleet I stopped off to see how the Kea Space Station was progressing. What a treat to see the crew towing the various pieces of machinery and building supplies through space! The space station itself is a huge ovoid that sits majestically amongst the stars waiting patiently for the galaxy of visitors to come by.
Standing at the helm, staring out into the vastness of space, one gets such a feeling of awe and inspiration. The twinkling of the far off planets make a delightful backdrop for the shuttles as they cruise about tending to their business, I cannot wait for my next visit to see
how they've progressed and eagerly await news.
For now though, I must continue my journey and forge onward to StarFleet. and rendezvous with the USS Davy Crocket, I was given information that they were on their way to a planet suffering a strange malady.
Having safely arrived at the USS Davy Crockett I was asked to stay on board while the away team investigated, when they came back they allowed me to see their report, and share it with you! Here then is their report:
Starfleet investigates strange plant disease at Perain-System.
Starfleet News Service reports, that the Benta-Re Leadership requested assistance to investigate a strange plant disease at their farmstead colonies at Perain-System.
The Perain Sun-System is 13 LY away from our world. The Benta-Re are a reclusive species that live two sectors away from the New-Vinland Colony.
"To show our good will, Sector Command at New Vinland agreed to send out a scientific vessel. The USS Davy-Crockett already establish a research
site and start investigations.", a spokesman of the SNS informs us. "It is really strange. The planet has a very high index on the bio-mass-index.
The continents are covered by dense jungle and swamp. We find out that only foreign planted crops suffer from this disease. The native fauna is not affected."
At the moment, there is no evidence that this disease affected other colonies and settlements, like our own home. But to reduce the risk we establish an exclusion-zone till we find a solution for the problem out there."
We keep you informed here.

RePrint of my G+ Account Episode 3
Hi Everyone! So sorry its taken me soooo long to get this next
“episode” out. It's been such a busy time and I had some vids to finish
up and of course, DigiWorldz’ 2nd Birthday Bash! It went great and
I’ll post pics and stuff about it on a different post! I’m just glad I
finally got the chance to look up and see how much time has passed since
my last post.
Speaking of “looking up” that sounds like a great thing to write about, because that is one of the things that shows I was the newbiest newb who ever newbed! So any new to virtual peeps who might be reading my little posts, take heart; it doesn’t last forever!
Picture if you will, being at a club and you see this poor person just seemingly wandering around the dance floor (this was before I got my ao too…so I guess we can say "see waddling around the dance floor"….).
The sad part is, I was trying to find the contest board I was told to hit to enter. Now why do clubs put those up high? They really should be at floor level so new peeps can find them, but then again they wouldn’t get the comic relief seeing someone like me waddling around. Now, in my defense…when someone would tell me to “look up”…ummm…would you believe there is NO look up gesture, animation in the viewers! Nope, not a one…cuz this oblivious person checked!...several times….with great frustration after each failed attempt to find the elusive “look up” function…..I know, I know; feel free to laugh at me.
Well, one day, finally, I lost it….my date at the club made the mistake of telling me….can you guess? Yep, he told me to “look up”…. (Poor guy). You see, I have a pretty awesome vocabulary, and well that vocab includes lots of colorful words that I did not normally use……they got used big time that night…. Soooooo, after I vented about how I must have a (insert colorful language) defective (insert colorful language) viewer or something as mine did NOT have this (insert colorful language) look up function so how the (insert colorful language) was I supposed to (insert colorful language) look the (insert colorful language) up?.....Sigh.
Soooooo, the dear man explained to me all about the wonderful tool called “alt click”…..And I’ve been camming ever since! We stayed fast friends of the special virtual sort for the next 3+ years.
I hope you all have a virtually wonderful day

Episode 2
Returning to the beginning, my first job in SL was as a pole dancer (clothed) at the once famous Voodoo Lounge run by Lias Lleandros. Lias would hire newbs, pay them and in her way get them ready for the great big world of SL. It was through her DJ school that I learned how to DJ, and my then partner re-taught me the tech side of it. I remember my very first gig, I was TERRIFIED I would screw it all up. It was at the club owned by friends, Nawlins Streeter and DJ Sephiroth. It went quite well actually and Arcadian VanAlten gave me the name I would later use for my fan group “Nox Rox”. DJ’ing was actually for me the easiest part of being newb. Whenever we would go anywhere….if there was a hole anywhere on that region, I would fall in it..without fail. Of course, I still hadn’t quite gotten the whole “you can fly” thing down so I’d be “screaming” for someone to get me out…yes it is embarrassing to admit that! However, perhaps not as embarrassing as admitting that RL I get lost crossing the street, and if I’m not careful…that follows me into virtual as well. I can’t tell you how many times Kaos (one of my best friends and business partner in the radio station) would IM me and say “where are you”….and I’d look around realize he wasn’t nearby anymore and say “Um, right where you left me?”.
One of the first opensim grids we tried out, after checking out quite a few (there are stray Noxlunas all over), was called Open Life grid. It was fun being a “pioneer” on a new grid. We didn’t have a lot of expectations and certainly didn’t expect to have a lot of content to choose from.
One of the best of my newb moments happened there though. Mort and I were building the commercial area of the region and I had a bed set out that I was working on putting more animations in. Kip popped over and sat on the bed and we were all talking for a bit. Then, for some reason I don’t even remember anymore, I picked up the bed and put it into inventory….while Kip was sitting on it. POOF! He was gone! I started panicking thinking I had taken him into inventory! He started yelling “Where the $%#@ am I??” I panicked more! Mortus didn’t know what to do…two panicking newbs on his hands and of course by then both Kip and I were panicking and swearing (oh I should point out that Kip was newb longer even than I). Well of course after he got us calmed down he saw that Kip got sent to the corner of the region and tp’ed him back. Needless to say we all spent about a half an hour after that laughing our butts off.
So, how does that relate to my passion for opensim? Opensim affords people the opportunity to become creators, to push their own boundaries. I have honestly learned MORE since leaving SL than when I was in SL. I love that. I also know though, that some people do not want to learn or “work” in virtual. Some people want all the mod con’s that they’re used to having in SL and some of them do not like “free” as in SL much free content is either stolen or “old school”.
One thing I always did with my “newbs” I would take under my wing was to take them to the Freebie Dungeon and set them loose. They would IM me hours later telling me how much fun they had and go on and on about it. Of course later when I would take them to stores and what not they would compare the free to the bought and ask me why I let them take this or that. My reply was always you only get to be newb once, and the magic of freebie shopping (that wonderment) is only possible for a relatively narrow window. That being said, I do think opensim has a higher quality freebie content than SL, and my belief is it goes to that pioneering spirit where peeps had to make what they needed/wanted since the content creators of SL weren’t there.
I encourage everyone to try their hand making something. My hope is that when they see what is involved with making something, more appreciation will be felt for those who spend the majority of their time doing such, whether the item is free or for sale.
In Digiworldz I’m able to afford rather a lot of land, and I have quite a bit set aside that I let new people set up as home base while they’re finding their way. I also let peeps have a free store at my commercial region, DarkMoon Bay. Here they are able to learn building and how to sell or give away, with free rent people are free to decide if they need to make money to cover tier or save up to get their own region or just give their creations away. With all the grids I’ve checked out or tried to settle down in, Digiworldz is the one have felt the most at home at, and the one that has allowed me to really set my creativity free.

Why I'm so passionate about Opensim (reprint from my g+ account)
Why I'm so passionate about Opensim
Like many people my introduction to Opensim began with my “adventures” in Second Life (SL). Before I go into that, let me preface it by saying before second life my computer use was pretty much work related with email use to family/friends, online shopping and bubble popping on Lycos. I had never been a “gamer” or anything like that. So, of course, my introduction to SL had to be from a non standard avenue. I don’t know how many of you watched the CSI shows, but the CSI NY series did a season that was all about SL basically. They solved the murder of a woman who was also a big time SL addict. CSI had its own sim in SL and you could go in and solve murders….that hooked me especially since I'm an insomniac and there was not much on tv at 3 am.
Of course, any write up wouldn’t be complete without the embarrassing parts, so I was “newb” for a very long time lol. I didn’t get my first skin until I had been in SL for a few months, my first AO til about 6 months in. Not because I didn’t want to spend the money, but because I didn’t know these things existed! And you should have seen my face when someone told me about the OTHER stuff peeps got up to (yes I was really newb for the longest time!)
It wasn’t long after that and I had my first SL job which led to me learning to DJ. What fun! Now this was back in 2007/2008 when it was still a big deal to be an inworld DJ…we were total rockstars back then!! Of course clubs demanded certain things, like you had to use sam broadcaster to dj and had to have a following and had to voice. Being the type of person who loves to learn, it wasn’t long before I was attempting to make things. I say attempt as my first house I made I wasn’t sure how to get the door how I wanted it as I wanted it to swing one way but it was set up to swing the opposite. I asked a friend how to do what I wanted and I was told to just rotate the door….needless to say when I did that and attached to the house and went to open the door it wasn’t the door that swung around, it was the whole bloody house!
Then there was the very first time I tried to terraform. I was trying to make myself a little natural pool for when I decided to go mer. After 6 hours I still didn’t have the perfectly rectangular hole in the ground I was trying to achieve…..yes 6 hours….and it just kept getting bigger and bigger because I was determined it would be perfectly rectangular. To this day I STILL totally suck at terraforming, which is OK as there are people who are awesome at it!
What sealed the deal for virtual for me though was something a little less tangible. I bought my first piece of land on a mainland sim called Coverdale. It was out in the middle of nowhere (not really, but that part is coming up). Ocean view as far as the eye could see (not really, but that part is coming up). I would sit at the beach and just watch the water move and it was mine..it was there that I met someone whom would become a lifelong friend, his name was Cosmo and he bought the lot next to mine. For the first few months I was just the crazy lady who would wander around building while wearing fancy formal dresses (oh yeah I was a TOTAL fancy dress addict). Then came the day I learned about draw distance….
Remember I said I was a newb for a long time… I don’t know if you can imagine the shock I got when I opened up my draw distance and discovered not only was I not in the middle of nowhere…but there was CRAP everywhere! OMG, in the water, in the sky, on the land…..as far as the eye could see…just stuff….everywhere! By the time I became disenchanted with SL (mainly because of poor business decisions and poor customer service by LL), Cosmo and I owned almost the entire mainland between the two of us, and the first lil parcels we owned traded between us numerous times. By then I had learned how to do quite a lot, make animations, make textures, make clothes (could not make a decent sculpt to save my life though). So, one day I went out searching to see if there was ANY competition to SL, and that is how I discovered opensim..of sorts.
After many failed attempts at various grids over the course of the next few years, I finally ended up at 3rd Rock grid for the second time. When Terry and TR left there to set up Digiworldz, I followed shortly thereafter as they really were my first experience with caring, committed grid management. It also doesn't hurt at all that the prices are beyond affordable and the customer care is, in my opinion, unparalled. Digiworldz is my home and everyday I find myself thankful for discovering the path that led me here.
Now to get to the “meat” of the story…why I’m so passionate about opensim…
While SL was great as a first introduction to virtual and I owe it for opening my world and expanding my horizons, its too saturated with people…with creators, with clubs, with dj’s, with drama, with griefers….you can’t see the forest thru the trees, there’s just sooo much…. It's probably the biggest proof to “you can stand in a crowded room and feel all alone”.
I honestly feel that the quality of “friendships” one can make in OS vs SL is greater. I have a higher number of people I call friends here in OS than I did in SL. In fact most of those true friends I had in SL are no longer even there, some have followed me out of SL, some are not in virtual at all but we text or fb chat or skype chat.
I believe that when Sansar goes full force LL will let SL fall to the wayside, that means that opensim will be the last bastion for those peeps who are like me. Learning to make something out of nothing is a magical moment, learning to make your first prim house, your first prim chair, torturing your first prim to make a ribbon, making your first curtain and watching it wave in the virtual wind...these are things that make virtual worlds special. That moment when you realize that you too can create animations, it doesn’t take a degree in rocket science, that you can create beautiful textures and gorgeous dresses.
These are all real world skills one can learn by playing a “game”….and then of course there’s scripting (ok I have never been able to wrap my head around scripting…I can do basic stuff …”hello world”…but anything more complex has my brain exploding), however there is that moment when you write your first little script to make that door open and it works! Its an empowering, positive feeling. And..you get to do this all for FREE!
Whether you make things to give away, make things to sell, offer custom services/products for pay, or you like to play and leave the work to others, everyone is needed for opensim, because someday opensim might be the only place(of its kind) for everyone.
